Vancouver natives BESTiE are a tropical indie pop band who is out there following their musical dreams, making new friends along the way. Their rad tunes, and down-to-earth vibes are what drew us in and we can’t wait for you to meet them.
Their success from their first few videos, including ‘Pineapple‘ which was #25 on Hype Machine (our fave!) as well as MTV’s Awkward, propelled them to win $50,000 from The Peak Performance Project. This helped them finance their debut LP and create buzz throughout Canada. Watch out world… BESTiE has the raddest tropical tunes that anyone could have.
Meet BESTiE…
How do you follow your bliss?
We find bliss from the little things, like eating a good slice of pizza, good tasty tacos, having a good nap, realizing how blessed we are to be alive in this world. Also when we play music, we find ourselves in a constant state of bliss.
When did the inspiration for BESTiE first come about?
It started about 4 years ago when the four of us found ourselves jamming in an old jamspace and decided to make this a permanent band with the goal of making fun music for everyone. The name BESTiE seemed fitting, as we love making new friends, and have our music enjoyed by everyone!
If fear ever shows up in your life, how do you move passed it?
If there is any fear or uncertainty, always remember that everything could be worse, and sometimes it is better to have a bit of fear, because it forces ourselves to overcome it and grow as better people.
Why do you love what you do?
The music, the interaction between the listeners and us, the dancing, the common denominator that music brings to all of us. No matter what race, gender, age, social status you are, we all have a shared experience through music, even if it is so personal and subjective for each individual.
What’s one of the biggest risks you’ve taken and how did it feel to go for it?
We have gone on very exhausting tours with lots of driving. Like this one drive that took 14 hrs to Calgary, just to make it in time for our set, when the city of Calgary was flooding. We felt like it was one of our best shows because of all the anticipation built into us from the uncertainty of knowing if we were going to make it or not.
What would your biggest dream for BESTiE be?
To continue to grow our fan base and increase the amount of people enjoying our music at shows or their homes. There should be no limit to how many people we want to love our music.
Tell us a time when something totally synchronistic happened…
This one time we were playing the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and we were coming from Vancouver Island. The weather was rainy and yucky, and our show was going to be outdoors. We started playing our set with the MC announcing how we are a very summery and posi vibes band.
We started playing our set to a handful of people that were dancing in the rain, but then suddenly the sky started clearing out and the sun came out, bringing in a lot more people out and by the end of the set there were lots of people dancing and singing along to BESTiE, enjoying the sun with big smiles on their faces 🙂
The synchronicity of the posi vibes lines up perfectly!
What advice could you give to someone who knows that they love to do, but haven’t gone for it?
Seriously, just go for it! If you don’t try, you will never know if you could have done it or not. Life is all about growing and fulfilling your inner happiness, and if you do what you love, your happiness of knowing that you are doing, will be the biggest reward! Nothing is impossible, and determination is very powerful.
