Vancouver natives BESTiE are a tropical indie pop band who is out there following their musical dreams, making new friends along the way. Their rad tunes, and down-to-earth vibes are what drew us in and we can’t wait for you to meet them.

Their success from their first few videos, including ‘Pineapple‘ which was #25 on Hype Machine (our fave!) as well as MTV’s Awkward, propelled them to win $50,000 from The Peak Performance Project. This helped them finance their debut LP and create buzz throughout Canada. Watch out world… BESTiE has the raddest tropical tunes that anyone could have.

Texan native, Nena Ocampo, decided to go for her dreams by moving to Costa Rica and launching the wonderful travel company, TuCamino. TuCamino was created out of her combined love of surf, travel and culture, and is where women come together to experience the real Costa Rica (and Mexico) while finding their own paths.

Their focus is on emerging yourself into a new culture, while making sure to have a positive impact on the surrounding communities. They do this through working with local businesses and volunteering with organisations that they truly believe in.

Sunshine Coast: The Place for Young Creatives

Wednesday // August 12 // 2015

Do you ever seem to ask yourself…

Where are all the people my age doing RAD, creative things (aka following their dreams)?

Is there a community out there that will embrace, support and encourage my ideas?

You’re in luck, there’s a place for you that will welcome you with open arms and a cold bevie…  The Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Written by Jess Abraham, Editor in Chief of Tidal Magazine

A few years ago the Coast didn’t have a great reputation as a destination for creativity and entrepreneurship. As soon as teenagers graduated High School, they left the Coast in pursuit of careers or education they thought they couldn’t find here.

Right now there’s a stirring cultural movement that’s reshaping the Sunshine Coast, and this movement of forward progression and thinking isn’t just keeping teenagers here, it’s attracting people from all over Australia to make the Coast their home.

It’s really great to see this culture and creativity become so prevalent in every aspect of life here. I went down that path initially as well, as soon as I graduated I moved states, and for a few months I loved it. I lasted just under a year before coming home, and seeing the Coast with fresh eyes was amazing. I fell in love with it all over again.  Continue Reading…

3 Ways to follow your dreams while having FUN

Monday // August 10 // 2015

Written by Meg O’Sullivan

Getting what you want is meant to be FUN!

We are here on this Earth to desire and dream big.

Life is about following that which excites us so that we can sense our ALIVENESS and expand as human beings.

But above all else, in the process of this expansion, life is meant to FEEL GOOD.

Yet, somewhere, somehow, we’ve been conditioned to believe otherwise. We’ve grown accepting to the idea that in the pursuit of our dreams, it’s okay to forgo our joy. (A.k.a. To get what we want we must work our arses off.)

But it doesn’t have to be this way.  I’ve recently learnt (through beautifully effortless experience!) that it’s possible to move towards what you desire without having to slog away.

Getting what you want can be fun. In fact – it’s meant to be!

If you’re eager to remove the struggle from your “dream chasing” and infuse more joy into life, here are 3 important steps to help you follow your dreams while having fun in the process: Continue Reading…

Why You Need to Take Risks Now

Thursday // August 6 // 2015

I often get asked:

“How do you take the risks that you do?”

“How were you at peace with moving to a new country without knowing where to live or a place to work?”

“How do you take risks, especially when your heart is involved?”

Moving to a new country, being courageous for love, taking a risk to start a blog and then a hat brand… the truth is I’ve been taking a lot of risks over the last few years and I’ve been able to do so because I’ve been doing this since I was 13. Whether I knew it or not, I was building up my risk-taking muscle that allows me to follow my heart. Of course there’s fear involved, especially when I’m super attached to the outcome, but I’m able to do it with at least some sort of excitement, knowing that I have my back and that I’m more than capable. Why I’m sharing this is because the perfect time to start to take risks, follow your heart and go for your dreams is now. It doesn’t matter how big or how small the risk or dreams may be, go for them now.

When I was 13 the risks were quite small. They were things like giving up soccer to pursue my love for cheerleading, or deciding to ask a boy to dance at a school mixer. While a little nerve-racking at the time, they were small risks with not a lot on the line. I continued to follow my heart and take risks, and the older I got and the more comfortable I was, the risks became larger and the outcomes became greater. My heart was more involved which made going for them even more exhilarating.

The older we get the more the risks seem to affect our lives; changing career paths, moving, telling the man or woman of our dreams how we feel. But if risk taking is something you’ve done before, the context seems to not matter as much and your heart takes over. It’s been here before, it all feels familiar and something in you says, “This has worked before, you can do this again.” The more you follow your heart, the more your body feels what it feels like to go for something that you would absolutely love to do.

The more you do this, the more you believe that it will all work out, while also learning that it’s ok to fail. Even if it doesn’t turn out how you originally planned, you know it’s because something better is on its way.

Your dreams will continue to change and what you’re taking a risk for will alter, but what can always be there is the confidence you’ve built within yourself and your ability to go for the things that mean the most to you in that moment.

So start now. Your future dreams will thank you.
