A DTS Community Story written by Kaitlyn Gooch…
Now the question, why am I doing what I love now, instead of waiting?
The brief answer? – Life is short.
A series of (somewhat unfortunate) events has led me to know that we are never promised tomorrow. That if I sit here and do what society tells me I’m supposed to do, I could long be dead before following my dreams.
It took me a while to come to terms with that. There was a long period of time where I believed that I wasn’t living up to expectations. That what I was doing wasn’t good enough. That I needed to go to university, get a steady job, save for a house, pay back my student loan & have kids – in that order – to really be successful and make others around me proud.
It overwhelmed me to the point of chest tightening suffocation and I felt by not following the steps I was letting people down.
I sat down one day and took a long hard look within. I wrote out my dreams and aspirations on paper. I felt what it would be like to live those things and it was then that I realised that I am the only one living my life, and above all else it’s me that has to be happy with my choices. It’s me that lives this life. I also realised that when I am happy with what I am doing and the way I am living; others are also happy for me.
So I took a deep breath and dived in.
I now choose to follow my heart & work towards living my dreams in every moment, because I find it extremely liberating and exciting. Everyday I am proud of myself for trying.
I have recently returned from two and a half months travelling solo around Europe.
In two weeks I head to Bali, firstly to tackle my fear of the ocean by doing my PADI open waters and following that do something I never thought possible – complete my 200 hour yoga teacher training. After the month of November I have no idea where life will take me, all I know I am so excited for all the opportunities opening up for me.
I know that I want to be an example. I want people to know it’s possible to follow your heart and survive; to do what lights up your life & what feeds your soul, as ‘unconventional’ as it may seem. I want people to see that not everyone needs that 9-5 get up, just because they’ve been programmed to think they do.
I’m inspired when I look around and see people living from their hearts, doing what lights their lives, living their truth; to see other game changers on the field. This is one of the many reasons I love the DTS community.
I’m inspired when people tell me that I have helped them to do what they love & follow their hearts. It all motivates me to keep moving towards my dreams and living my truth.
I am doing what I love now, instead of waiting for a later date because I want to know that if I was die tomorrow I could look back and say I truly lived. I followed my heart, my dreams. I took risks, I made mistakes but above all, that I was happy. I do what I love now. Because who knows about tomorrow.
Granted, it may appear as a somber view, but my philosophy is really to live each day for those who cant. I take risks because I love the feeling of the unknown. I take bigger risks because I love playing with the universe. Everything in my life always works out for my higher good & I’m sure yours does too.
I dream, I dance; I dare – because as the brilliant Emma Watson recently reminded us;
“-If not me, who?
-If not now, when?”
Kaitlyn recently completed her open waters and is now hanging out to do her advanced. She also just received her 200hr yoga teacher training and so be sure to check out her classes in the new year!
