A little more than two years ago I was going to community college in Portland, Oregon, and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. My previous plan was to become a teacher and eventually raise a family in the town I grew up in. My thoughts were, ‘yeah I guess I could be happy doing that.’
Then one day while at lunch with my mom she looked and me and asked, ‘What is your dream job?’ And I was honestly taken aback. I mean of course it was something I had thought about, but to me it was exactly that… a dream.
‘I have always dreamed of moving to Los Angeles and working in the entertainment industry as a personality.’ I told her. She then said something that truly changed my life. ‘Well why aren’t you doing that then?’
Less than two months later I had left school, set up an internship, and my car was packed. I drove 16 hours to Los Angeles and started my journey. Since then I have had multiple internships, and I have worked at amazing events like the MTV Video Music Awards and red carpets.
Sitting back and thinking of what “could be” is something that I was sick of doing, and though my path may not be the same one a lot of people my age are doing, it’s the right one for me and that is what matters most. I’m living in the now and taking each day as it comes exploring not only what I want, but what this amazing city has to offer.
